About this course

A practical, project-based course covering the Civil 3D workflow used for road, site and earthworks design: building surfaces from survey data, designing alignments and profiles, building corridors, and producing volume/earthworks reports. Ideal for civil engineers and surveyors who already know AutoCAD and want to add infrastructure design capability.

What you'll learn

  • Build existing-ground surfaces from survey and points data
  • Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles
  • Construct corridors with assemblies and subassemblies
  • Calculate cut/fill volumes and generate earthworks reports
  • Produce plan-and-profile sheets for issue
  • Manage data shortcuts across a multi-drawing project

Curriculum

Day 1 — Points, Surfaces & Survey Data

Importing points, building and editing TIN surfaces.

Day 2 — Alignments & Profiles

Horizontal alignments, profile views and design profiles.

Day 3 — Corridors

Assemblies, subassemblies and corridor modelling.

Day 4 — Earthworks & Volumes

Grading, sections, and cut/fill volume reporting.

Day 5 — Sheets & Project Workflow

Plan-and-profile sheet production and data shortcuts.

Prerequisites

Working knowledge of AutoCAD is required. Basic surveying/earthworks terminology is helpful but not essential.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 08:30 to 16:30. Includes a full set of practice datasets and sample drawings to keep after the course.
